India got its first school for girls in 1848. 35 years later, the first women graduates in 1883. Yet in 2023, the urban women employability rate stands at just 21% — lower than the 23% recorded in 1990. The session 'Women and Workplace — Challenges and Way Forward' was held at Diet-In, Vadapalani on July 1, 2023.
Participants from diverse backgrounds, age groups, jobs and geographies enriched the conversation with multiple perspectives. Topics included the PoSH Act 2013, structural challenges in the workplace, unpaid care work, domestic work exploitation, and the need for socio-behavioral change.
