On May 28, 2023, as part of the Penniyam Pazhagu (பெண்ணியம் பழகு) series, The Penn Collective held a powerful session titled 'Beyond Bodies — Conversations on Objectification of Women'. The discussion examined how patriarchy imposes standards and controls on women's bodies from birth.

From 'too thin' to 'too fat', 'too tall' to 'too short', 'too dark' to 'too fair' — we are told what beauty means. The patriarchal society decides everything about a woman's body, life and choices.

The session was a treasure trove of knowledge and experience — discussing the political games played from home to healthcare, sports to politics, education to employment — all of which deny women access to their rights and freedoms. Conversations ranged from beauty economy to bodily rituals, from public space access to reproductive rights.

Participants left with clarity on why these bodily structures must be dismantled, and with a resolve stronger than ever before. The Penn Collective expresses gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the event.
